CMS Review

Purpose:

The Course Management System Review is a system-wide project to research and evaluate course management systems (CMS), including their functionality, system architecture, costs and funding. The project will result in findings that colleges can use to develop their local course management system strategy. The review builds the foundations to deliver services collaboratively and presents colleges with an opportunity to work as a large and united client to prospective vendors and potentially gain cost and performance advantages.

The project will research national Course Management System trends and CTC system needs and plans. Discussions in the early stages of this project have identified some critical topics for the decision support tool to address. System wide research has identified important features and functions of current and future CMS, as viewed by faculty, students, and Distance Learning and Information Technology staff.

This project will conduct a modular, flexible RFP of vendor-supplied solutions and a search for solutions based on open-source and home-grown systems, using the scope and requirements to be developed by the CMS Review Advisory Committee. This research will deliver detailed information and pricing structures from CMS vendors. The results will include:

This project involves developing decision support information such as white papers and reference guides, and information about features and functionality, system architecture options and costs.
