What is Strategy?

The seventh project identified under the CAR Initiatives is focused on Strategy. The question this engagement is tasked with answering is "How do we serve students with technology?" This engagement is focused on pure strategy—big picture definition.

Historically, student systems have been pigeonholed into the teaching and learning silo with student administrative systems being managed as an "add on" to the traditional administrative silo related to HR, Finance, Research, etc. This strategy project will help define how we bridge these IT silos to inform a more complete vision for student systems.

The Re-Hosting Assessment, outcomes from the Technology Task Force Technology Plan, and changes in the governance model at CIS will be taken into account when developing this strategy. The work done on this project will help create a foundation to realign CAR projects to take advantage of the value of a clearly defined strategic direction. The results from this project are expected late May/early June.

Project Update, May 1, 2008

The strategy consulting team has completed the data collection phase of the strategy project. This initial phase included traveling across the state to conduct 21 in person interviews with state board, CIS and college representatives and student focus groups. The next step is to analyze the data collected and leverage these results in designing the strategy.
